1972 BMW R60/5

Price: $7,000

1972 BMW R60/5

Owner’s Description:

Has an Earle’s Fork conversion, circa 2023, with complete original front end available to re-convert or sell. R69S components, wheelbase is same as R69/2. No front-end dive on braking, smooth and straight tracking, sharp handling, smooths out road imperfections better than stock /5.

A bit more horsepower than a R69/2, with new Mikuni carbs, Tri-Spark ignition, full pressure oiling “modern” boxer engine with roller rockers. 4-speed transmission with electric and kick start. The bike also has a new 280-watt charging system supporting heated clothing, and an Odyssey sealed battery, 4-liter aluminum sump, Brown side stand, Craven rack, custom heavy-duty center stand, LED lights, new Heidenau tires, Koni dial-adjust shocks, new cables. Rear drive splines are like new. It includes a full tool kit, tire pump, and repro owner’s manual.

Decent cosmetics with a lot of stainless and chrome, but this bike is a rider not a garage queen. Paint imperfections can be pointed out. Front fender stripes are tape.

This was a Maine bike I acquired from a retired BMW dealer who sold it new. No title, less than 750 cc. Sold on registration. I am looking for $7,000 with comparable R69S averaging $16,000.

Basics:

  • 29K on the clocks
  • Matching numbers
  • Sold on Bill of Sale only
  • Located in Colchester, VT

Jack’s Listing Assessment:

We know this bike and owner very well. George knows his stuff and always maintains his machines well. Very straight shooter. At CBE we don’t see many Beemers and rely on others for assessments. George is one of those guys.
