Doing Business with Classic Bike Experience

We do this because we love it. And we know you do too. Keeping that in mind, here are our guiding principles and practices:

  1. Full Collaboration. We expect, and want, you to be heavily involved in the process. Whether getting your fingers dirty or being buried with our update videos, we expect this to be a partnership throughout.
  2. Full Transparency. We practice open-book accounting with real-time access to your project file and costs. We are crappy liars and don’t want to have to remember things. The companion of full transparency is the full documentation we provide in our design notes.
  3. Realistic Estimates and Updates. You’ll always know where you stand against the initial estimate and can track variances as necessary.
  4. It’s Expensive. There is little chance you will recover your investment in a resale. But smiles per mile (SPM) are higher than most any other hobby 🙂 We aim to get you the best possible value on the SPM scale.
  5. Communication is Key. We spend a lot of time on the phone and emails. It’s part of the, wait for it, experience! It starts with an email or phone call and goes from there. We always have time to talk about getting your bike back on the road.
  6. Don’t Make Toil of Pleasure. Have fun on this journey and be as engaged as you can.

Commercial Terms:

  1. Plan of Attack. Each project will normally have a written POA and overall estimate before derailed work begins. Once a customer agrees to our plan, that becomes the baseline estimate. All variances and scope changes can be found in the build notes.
  2. Deposits and Cash Flow. As a general rule we do not like to be more than $500 ahead of our customers on projects. Once the POA and scope is agreed to funding requests will normally be tied to parts purchase, subcontracts, and labor milestones.
  3. Invoicing. Our standard method of invoicing is through QuickBooks secure online email links. This includes a 3% service fee for credit card processing. If you prefer to pay by check please make prior arrangements with us, including use of certified mail. Checks have a way of not showing up on time. We prefer NOT to accept cash for major transactions. Prompt payment is key to keeping our business cash healthy.

Your Bike:

  1. Insurance. You bike is covered for fire, theft and damage by CBE’s Garage Keeper’s Insurance. It is good practice to check with you insurance carrier as well, especially if the machine will be here for an extended time. .
  2. Registration for Test Riding. We prefer bikes be ridden for 25+ miles in 5+ heat cycles to properly bed them in and do final tuning. Ergo, please make arrangements for proper registration and insurance to be in effect so we can test ride before delivery.
  3. Storage. We are very limited on space. We request you pick up your bike within 30 days of completion. We have limited storage for $3/day with prior arrangements.
  4. Warranty. Generally speaking, there is no formal warranty on repairs. What we do have is gobs of goodwill and that goes a long way if there are issues. However, you are responsible for getting your bike back to us as needed. Defective parts are warranted 100%.
