Team Skippy April Update

I want to bring you up to date on Team Skippy Racing.

Kenneth Lavallee Team Skippy Racing at Classic Bike Experience

…from you know, those two-stroke guys at the end of the bay! Our racing season is about to get underway starting May 4 and 5 for two days in Thompson, CT at what’s called a track day. We’ll have two full days to learn the track and dial in the bike for the venue. The next actual race there will be at the end of the month.

Every off-season we tear the bike apart and I usually go hunting for more engine performance… not that we really need it but I’m a greedy tuner with lots of pride. This off-season we updated the cylinder porting and lightened the crankshaft. In an effort to vet the changes and to make sure we’re ready for the track, we’ve been bringing the bike down to NH to a friend’s facility to put the bike on the dyno.

The dyno allows us to characterize the engine torque/HP performance curve as a function of RPM.

At the end of last year, we were putting out 74 Rear Wheel Horse Power which is significant seeing as the bike when new back in 1968, only put out 38. After the off-season engine updates, I’m happy to say we are now pumping out 79 RWHP!

We are very happy with yesterday’s results. From here on out, I’ll be prepping the bike to pass tech inspection, etc.. We are in good shape to start the season and hope to make the shop proud at the track. More to come as things develop throughout the season.

Cheers,
Ken
