“I hope to see you guys again soon,” Tony says. “One never knows where the wind will blow, and none of us is getting any younger.”
Tony Jones is a retired Army Major. He lives in North Carolina and is having the 1975 Norton Commando that he bought new, rebuilt at Family Cycle Sales in Hamlet, NC.
However, with the differences between the 1968-74 Commando engines and the 1975 version, his local mechanic Mark suggested that Tony should have it rebuilt by a shop with greater experience.

He shipped the motor to Classic Bike Experience (CBE) in October, 2024 and wanted to get it done by January. Our machinists were able to get the work done sooner than that, and we were able to get the parts delivered from Andover-Norton, so we were on track to have it done on time.
Then, he called saying that he was going to the Army / Navy game on Dec 12th, and would be swinging up to take a look at our progress.
For a retired CSM, “swinging up” was apparently a 500-mile trip from DC to the frozen state of Vermont! We decided to have the motor ready for him to take back with him – which he was not expecting. Tony, accompanied by his doggie-companion Hennie, visited CBE for 2 days and was able to see his motor running on our test stand before we packed it up and loaded it into his truck for the trip back home.
